C&O Canal

Chesapeake and Ohio Canal NHP

Starting in October 2021, we plan to walk the entire 184 miles of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal NHP over the next 12 months in 4-8 mile increments.

George and Warren

We started our C&O Canal Walk. George Kolodner (Left) Warren Jone (Right) and Bruce Bunting (Photographer). We walked from Cabin John at Lock 8 to Old Angler’s Inn. about 4 miles. The highlight was a group of Wood Ducks, with the 4 males in their full adult plumage, and several males still molting, and about 6 females. Beautiful birds. We heard but did not see a Northern Flicker and of course the Carolina wren. We saw River Cooters and Red slider turtles.
